A titleholder only needs three things: confidence, purpose, and… her crown box. Pageant queens use crown boxes as their purse; it contains the essentials needed for appearances, rehearsals, and farewell weekends. Therefore, it is important to make sure yours has these five things:
1. Autograph Cards
As a pageant girl, you can’t be afraid to brand and market yourself. Every appearance is a great opportunity to network with others. You never know who you might meet! Before you say goodbye, be sure to give them an business or autograph card to stay in contact. You can read more about autograph cards and handy alternatives here.
2. Makeup
Just admit it, the perfect makeup application doesn’t last forever, but that doesn’t mean we can’t keep it looking as great as it did when we first put it on. The longer you wear your makeup for, the shinier you may get. Because of this, be sure to keep a compact of powder foundation and a small brush or sponge in your crown box. You should also have everything you need for your lips (liner, lipstick, and chapstick), as it is likely to fade after talking and snacking.
3. Tide Pen
As a titleholder, it isn’t uncommon for you to spend your days volunteering in your community. Because of this, a Tide Pen can be a lifesaver. They can help you keep your sash clean while you’re out and about promoting your platform. Accidents happen! It’s better to be safe than sorry.
4. Pen & Notepad
At NAM Nationals ‘17, USA Ambassador Nationals ‘18, and RIM Eastern States ‘18, I received several comments on how “cute” I was for taking notes during rehearsals. Pageant rehearsals (and any outing for that matter) are packed with information and it’s important to not miss a thing. Somethings I always take notes on are: run of the final show, my spots during opening number, and any last minute tips the directors and staff may provide.
5. Emergency Kit
This is arguably the most important thing to keep in your crown box, but so many people forget about it! The emergency kit is a small bag that contains everything you may ever need. This is unique for each girl, but these are somethings I always keep in mine: feminine hygiene products, allergy and fever medicine, bobby-pins, safety pins, chapstick and lipgloss, Q-tips, dental floss, mini sewing kit, and bandaids. Even if you may not need these things very often, another contestant might! As always, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
I hope this post was helpful to you!
