September
Back-to-School
Schools around the country are getting ready to start the upcoming academic year. Many of them would appreciate a helping hand. Consider volunteering your time or donating school supplies to give back to your community.
New York Fashion Week
NYFW occurs twice a year: once in February and once in September. Fashion shows are perfect appearances for titleholders of all levels, whether you’re walking in one or just watching. They’re great for exposure to the fashion and modeling industries, and you can get some cool pictures too! You might even find a potential sponsor for your next pageant.

October
School Presentations
Since schools haven’t gotten into heavy test-prep mode, they’re usually more willing to host guest speakers and presentations. If your pageant has a national platform or if you want to promote your own, this is the perfect time to bring it to a new audience! This is an appearance idea that works for the rest of the season.
Halloween Events
Halloween is one of the biggest holidays in the country, why not make an appearance out of it? Try searching online for Halloween parades or events being thrown in your area. Make sure your costume is age appropriate and the event you attend is titleholder appropriate too!
November
Miss USA State Pageants
Other state pageants are great ways to meet titleholders across systems. There are multiple Miss USA state pageants happening on any given weekend in November. If your state’s pageant isn’t until later, consider going on a road-trip with a pageant friend to split the costs! Besides, who doesn’t like seeing their pageant predictions come true?

Veteran’s Day
In early November, this holiday is the perfect opportunity to start your Thanksgiving season. You can make an appearance at a cemetery or memorial that honors fallen soldiers or volunteer with a non-profit that supports veterans.

Soup Kitchen
There are many things to be thankful for during the fall, but one of my favorite things is good food! Soup kitchens need all the help they can get around Thanksgiving, so volunteer your time at one to give back to your community.
Thanksgiving Parade
Many cities around the country celebrate Thanksgiving with a parade, so contact the board who runs it and try to secure a spot! This one requires some planning in advance, so if you can’t be in the parade, you can always attend it!

Assisted Living Center
Happy holidays! Spread some holiday cheer at your local Assisted Living Center. Read to, chat with, or give personalized cards to those who can use some cheering up. This is a great activity to do with your sister queens!
National American Miss and Miss American Coed Nationals
National pageants are a blast; they go on for an entire week and you get to explore somewhere new. Both of these pageants happen during Thanksgiving week; NAM is in Anaheim, CA and MAC is in Orlando, FL. To reduce costs, you can try rooming with a friend whose competing in exchange for hair and makeup services throughout the week. It’s always great to support your past, present, and future sister queens!
