As many of you know, I held the title of Miss New York USA Ambassador Teen. What really drew me to this pageant system was their SLICC motto, which stands for Success through Leadership, Integrity, Character, and Confidence. This is a great example of a system building leaders and supporting their endeavors, as each titleholder embodies SLICC in their own way. I asked the class of 2018 how they’re SLICC and what it means to them. Here are there responses:
Miss California Preteen, Paige Stowe

“SLICC means to me always doing the right thing even with no one is watching. And in my community I help when I can. I play with abandoned animals at my local animal shelter. I visit elderly in convalescent homes when their families can’t and raise money to help with veterans causes.”
Miss North Carolina Preteen, Abbie White
“SLICC to me means being an example by showing love to others in my community. My platform is Be a R.A.K. Star- because small acts of kindness make a BIG difference in our community and world. Some ways I show this are by working with a local animal Rescue, raising funds for Children’s hospital or something simple like buying a meal for someone behind me in the drive thru.”
Miss Palmetto State Jr. Preteen, Peyton Jade Money

“SLICC to me means being a kind person always even if others are not kind to you. It also means helping others in whatever way I can. My favorite charity is the Children’s Hospital and I have done many activities to help including my own project called Octopuses for Premies where I make crochet octopuses, with my Nana’s help, to give to premie babies in the NICU. It helps them during their hospital stay.”
Miss Southern Pennsylvania, Morgan Lee

“I am a firm believer in the SLICC motto. I show my SLICC by leading children with autism to success , integrity in my coursework as a graduate student, my character is reflected in my life choice to always be kind, and my confidence is demonstrated in my platform “celebrating everyBODY” as a plus size woman who firmly believes in the power of loving yourself. I believe SLICC is a motto that is personally defined through our own actions and journey. I encourage everyone to practice making SLICC choices that will positively reflect themselves!”
