Royal International Miss California was my first pageant! I had always wanted to participate in one, but Irish Dance has kept me very busy for most of my life. My friend Laura Singer, who is the International Role Model in our system really pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and try something new, and I’m so glad she did as it has been an incredible experience so far.
There are so many things that have been wonderful throughout my pageant career, but if I had to pick one, my favorite thing would be the other women and young ladies that I met at the California pageant and subsequently through social networking online. Everyone has been extraordinarily gracious to me, and very helpful at the pageant, since I was basically clueless on some aspects. Being around the caliber of women that I have now been exposed to makes me want to continuously better myself and to keep working hard in everything I do. It has been a rewarding experience, and I can only imagine what Internationals will be like.
My favorite memory was being awarded Best Personality at Royal International Miss California competition. I’m a huge believer in inner beauty shining through, and the fact that the judges selected me out of all the other contestants with a lot of pageant and interview experience was a very proud moment for me. It was the moment that I realized I can really do this.
I have two platforms, heart health and education. I am currently an Ambassador with our local chapter of the American Heart Association, and will be attending my first event with them this weekend, the OC Heart & Stroke Walk & 5k Run. Ialso work to promote their cause on my social media platform. Heart health is very important to me as I suddenly lost my father to heart failure five years ago. Using my title to do something in his honor has been indescribably rewarding. For my other platform education, which I am equally as passionate about, I work as an adult literacy volunteer and spend a few hours per week with my adult learner who is trying to better their life by learning to read. We have learned the letters ‘B’ and ‘K’ I am also working with the local chapter of United Way to help keep at risk high school children in schools by speaking to them and encouraging their work through mentorship.
I love the positive message The Queen Next Door spreads. It has been wonderful learning about women who made “herstory” for Black History month, as well as reading the articles about other queens. Everyone in the Royal International Miss system and other queens you’ve interviewed are so inspiring! Thank you for this opportunity!
This compassionate, intelligent, and driven Ms will be competing for the title of 2019-2020 Royal International Ms this July in Orlando, Florida! We’re so proud of her for winning her first title, and we can’t wait to see her represent her state on that beautiful international stage.
Until next time,
Jordan
